Vietnam thump Singapore in int’l football friendly
It was clear that Vietnam coach Park Hang Seo and his Singapore counterpart Takayuki Nishigaya took advantage of the match to evaluate their lineup options ahead of the 2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup, which is set to take place from December 23, 2022 to January 15, 2023, with each side choosing to start several players with fewer than 15 caps.
For Vietnam, this included Phan Tuan Tai, 21, and Nham Manh Dung, 22, earning their first caps as a left-wing midfielder and a striker, respectively.
The duo made great impressions during their playing time on the left wing, but failed to convert their attacks into goals.
Nguyen Van Quyet, a veteran player for the Golden Stars, opened the scoring in the 37th minute.
Vietnam deployed three more youngsters after the restart, which turned out to be a worthy experiment when one of them – Nguyen Thanh Nhan – fired home an angled drive on his international debut in the 51st minute.
Singapore later allowed Ho Tan Tai to head in fellow substitute Phan Van Duc’s pick-out in the 71st minute.
Khuat Van Khang, another sub, added to the Lions’ misery 10 minutes later by sliding in on the dawdling captain Hariss Harun to also score during his first appearance.
The 4-0 victory satisfied coach Park both in terms of result and the overall performance of his less seasoned players.
Vietnam are set to take on India in another friendly at the same venue on September 27.
