Foreign travel website suggests 10 best things when visiting Vietnam

The travel website suggests guests spend time discovering the cuisine and culture of Hanoi. When visiting the capital city, travelers can dine at the same bun cha restaurant as Barack Obama and the late Anthony Bourdain did, or find their own favourite place out of the countless restaurants and street stalls around the city. In addition, Walking around Hoan Kiem lake in the heart of the capital in the weekend is too good to miss.

Located south of world-famous Ha Long Bay, Cat Ba island offers a more rugged, adventurous getaway compared to its headline-grabbing neighbour. Home to a verdant national park and dozens of tiny limestone islands, Cat Ba is a top destination for those seeking for an outdoor escape. Indulging in beach activities on the southcentral coast is a popular suggestion for tourists in Quy Nhon. Must-try local cuisine includes fresh seafood and banh xeo. Situated to the city’s north, Ky Co is arguably the most stunning beach throughout the country and can be reached either by boat or by road after a steep, incredibly gorgeous drive.

Buon Ma Thuot is widely considered to be the country’s coffee capital, particularly as the lush hills surrounding the city, combined with the cooler, arid climate of the region, make up the perfect conditions to grow the product. The World Coffee Museum is an ideal location for all tourists who head there.

Fort those seeking an escape from the heat, a trip to the bustling city of Da Lat nestled in low mountains is recommended. It’s now a popular destination for all, though adrenaline-seekers are especially well-catered for thanks to the canyoning trips to nearby waterfalls. In addition, driving motorbikes around the surrounding valleys offers fantastic views as well.

Taking a food tour is a fresh experience in Ho Chi Minh City. Visitors can sample famed street food such as bun thit nuong, banh mi, and com tam before taking in the sunset over the Saigon river and glittering skyscrapers around the Thu Thiem peninsula.

Quang Binh province is home to many beautiful sightseeing spots. In recent years, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park has become a globally-renowned hotspot for cave exploration. It is also home to Son Doong which is currently the world’s largest cave and attracts many tourists. (Photo: Oxalis Adventures)

As the largest island in Vietnam, Phu Quoc features numerous stunning beaches whilst it is also home to fish sauce, an iconic local condiment, with plenty of factories open for tours.

Known as the flower capital of the Mekong Delta, Sa Dec is a great place to visit in the run-up to the Lunar New Year (Tet). Situated on the banks of the mighty Mekong River, life here typically revolves around water. Guests can hop on a motorbike and explore the small roads and paths that run past flower farms and rice paddies. A visit in January or February is recommended for travelers to enjoy a remarkable explosion of colour as locals prepare flowers for sale ahead of Tet. (Photo: Vinh Gau)
