Thua Thien-Hue to host international conference on conical hats

Participants at the event will discuss the current situation and various solutions for the sustainable development of conical hats in the locality.

The event will therefore provide a chance for craftsmen to meet and exchange information about the craft of conical hat making.

Advertising Hue conical hats and seeking measures aimed at improving vocational training for local practitioners are set to be hot topics during the conference.

The international conference is jointly organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) Vietnam and the Hue Conical Hat Association, and is expected to attract plenty of domestic and foreign intellectuals and craftsmen.

The craft of conical hat making has been practiced in Thua Thien-Hue for centuries. It is still well preserved today in Tay Ho village of Phu Ho commune, My Lam village of Phu My commune, and the villages of Phu Cam, Phuoc Vinh, Doc So, Trieu Tay, and Huong So in Hue.

Craftsmen residing in the village sell millions of conical hats to the market each year, not only meeting the needs of local people, but also providing an attractive souvenir for visitors to the province.

Along with the typical three-layer conical hats made from palm leaves, local artisans use leaves from the lotus and bamboo as materials to produce conical hats.

Son Tra Peninsula to become national tourism area

The Son Tra National Tourism Area is located on Son Tra Peninsula, Tho Quang Precinct, Son Tra District, Da Nang, around 10km from the city centre. The tourism site is planned to cover 1,056 hectares, accounting for one fourth of Son Tra District’s area. Three service centres will be built in three gateways of the Son Tra Peninsula, while areas serving eco tourism , entertainment, sports and sight-seeing will be developed, including a flower and herbal park, a wildlife rescue centre, a safari park, a camping area and sight-seeing points. Pets in Vietnam Receive Specialized Medical Care

Pet cats and dogs experiencing symptoms such as fever, convulsions, and shortness of breath, swallowing foreign objects, or sustaining injuries need immediate treatment, according to veterinarians. Vet Ngo Minh Nhut at Bee Pet Clinic in Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City, said that he has treated several pets suffering from injuries caused by motorbike crashes, poisoning, and gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Countless pets that had eye injuries and experienced miscarriages, hematuria, coma, and hypocalcemia received emergency care at the clinic, he added. Two months ago, he treated a dog that had a broken pelvis while trying to escape from dog thieves. “I once treated a malnourished German shepherd abandoned in Long An Province [near Ho Chi Minh City].
