Traditional craft festival to kick off in central Vietnam in late April

The People’s Committee of Hue City, which is the provincial capital, said on Tuesday that the preparation for the ninth Hue Traditional Craft Festival was completed.

Following the success of the previous editions, this year’s event, titled ‘Quintessence of Vietnamese Crafts,’ will feature art performances and displays of local and international handicrafts. 

The first fest was rolled out in 2005.

The highlight of the ninth edition is a food festival themed ‘Quintessence of Noodle-Making Craft’ with an aim to honor Hue’s traditional craft.

Other activities such as a culture-art exchange program, a street performance, and a flower garland and colored lantern fest will be organized during the 2023 Hue Traditional Craft Festival.

Vo Le Nhat, chairman of the Hue People’s Committee, said that this year’s festival will focus on introducing unique products of traditional crafts in the city and other provinces and cities in Vietnam as well as international craftwork. 

Among them are brocade weaving, silversmithing, embroidery, pottery, ao dai tailoring, copper casting, folk painting, lantern making, and cuisine.

The festival, one of the biggest events in Hue City and Thua Thien Hue Province, is aimed at preserving and promoting the value of traditional crafts and boosting tourism promotion.

The Hue Traditional Craft Festival will take place in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam from April 28 to May 5, with a large space featuring numerous activities and programs stretching along the two banks of the Huong (Perfume) River.

Vietnam to halt visa exemption policy for citizens from the EU and the UK

The UK and EU member nations will no longer enjoy visa-free travel to Vietnam , according to a proposal submitted to the government by the country’s steering committee on COVID-19 fighting and prevention. Vietnam will also halt its visa exemption policy for citizens of other countries outside of the EU where over 500 cases have been reported or more than 50 new infections are recorded in a single day, according to the proposal. Foreigners who have symptoms of il lness or recent travel history to areas hit by a COVID-19 outbreak will be denied entry into Vietnam . The proposal was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam as he chaired a meeting for COVID-19 prevention in Hanoi on Sunday night. Weaving village in the city

There are now very few families pursuing the trade, but they still try to continue preserving the brand of the traditional trade village. A golden age Few families in Bay Hien weaving village use looms. Nguyen Thi Hue, 80, is the oldest artisan and is one of very few artisans following the ups and downs of the village.
